The double standard of Hollywood is obvious. But what is less obvious is the water-downed version of Christianity that runs through the veins of this country. Many seem puzzled that network television would step on the toes of so many of its "Christian" viewers and not even think twice about it. That doesn't surprise me at all. The 'prince of the power of the air' runs this world system and dictates its decisions from the highest level. The Devil is a jerk and his antics should not surprise us.

Madonna wants to express herself

Last week, Matt Drudge reported the network, NBC, was seriously considering airing a Madonna concert in which the damsel would be adorned in a crown of thorns and hanging upon a giant mirrored cross. Of course, NBC had to carefully weigh this decision because such a "risky" and "daring" act of artistry may offend some of their 'backwoods' viewers. "We viewed it and didn't see it as being inappropriate," an NBC spokesman stated. Interesting… It's not inappropriate to mock Jesus Christ. Well, I guess they are right. American 'Christians' support Madonna through album sales and concert ticket purchases. What do we care… However, I would like to propose an idea to Madonna. If anyone has a direct line to the 'artist,' let me know. I have a fantastic, daring, bold, and intriguing idea that will push the limits of her artistry and will really make a statement… Why doesn't she take a copy of the Koran onto the stage with her and rip it up in front of her audience… Wouldn't that be artistic? Wouldn't that be pushing the limits of her 'creativity?' This would have to wait for her next concert tour of course, because she is busy being crucified during this round. I wonder if NBC would see anything "inappropriate in that scenario." I am sure that NBC is committed to artistic freedom and would allow Madonna to "express herself."

"VeggieTales is religious, NBC is not"

So said an NBC spokesman. Really? Wasn't NBC the network that just recently began promoting a show called the "Book of Daniel" in which a pill-popping priest named Daniel hallucinates and sees a hippy-looking Jesus. What was that all about? Well, the show has since been canceled so I digress.

In a seemingly hypocritical move, NBC, recently acquired the right to air the children's television show, Veggie Tales. However, Veggie Tale's overtly Biblical themes were offensive to NBC which led the network to request that all references to evangelical messages be edited out of the animated cartoon series prior to its airing on NBC.

Here's a quote from a recent article on the problems NBC had with the uncut Veggie Tales series according to the show's creator, Phil Vischer:

'In the script, Larry the Cucumber is convinced Samson must have gotten his extraordinary strength from his hairbrush.' 'No, replies Bob the Tomato, the Bible says that Samson's strength came from God.'

Vischer said that this line was OK with NBC, but the line that had to be removed was the next one, in which Bob says, 'And God can give us strength too.' 'What God does in the past is OK as long as it stays in the past,' Vischer says. 'But if you cross that line and say that God can affect your life in the present, then that's too much. That's reaching out to the audience and that's proselytizing or something. That's bad.')

The Hollywood Disconnect?

The double standard of NBC is obvious. But what is less obvious is the water-downed version of Christianity that runs through the veins of this country. Many seem puzzled that network television would step on the toes of so many of its "Christian" viewers and not even think twice about it. That doesn't puzzle me at all. What does surprise me is that 'Christians' all over America will continue to spend their evenings in front of a box, that gives them pleasure, viewing television shows that are full of debauchery and sin. I truly hope these are not the same "Christians" who don't have enough "time" to get involved in supporting the cause of Christ, whether it be through evangelism, outreach, or missions?

Prime-time television proudly promotes its entertainment as being full of: Murder, sex, violence, homosexuality, fornication, revenge, homicide, suicide, jealously, and infidelity. How is that that supposed to attract a Christian? Instead, it sounds like the list of things that keep us from God in 1 Cor. 6:9-11. Let's face it, these are among the primary themes that fill prime-time television. You want to know what surprises me? That Christians support this, feed on this and introduce their children to this. It's not the Hollywood executives that are confused about their demographics. Rather, their demographic are confused about Christ and the Christian walk.

Christian, wake up! Get your head out of the sand. The enemy is pulverizing America with your permission. The enemy is destroying precious families under your watch. The enemy is blindsiding the youth of America and leading them away from the Church in this generation. The enemy is plundering the shores of this country while many of you are glued to the tube. Don't point your confused finger at NBC for being what it is, a Godless network. Point your finger into the pages of the Bible and ask God what He would have you to do in these last days.

Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. - Luke 10:2 NKJV
