I am a homebody. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends in peace and quiet. My definition of a 'night out on the town' includes an early dinner and a nice stroll with my wife through the park or some other outdoor scenic area. Its not that I am just an old fuddy-duddy, I am just simple, I guess. Besides, when I was younger, I burned all the midnight oil, (and other things that were quite illegal) that I could stand. Today, there's really nothing else I would rather do than to spend quality time with my family. Simply put, I am a family man...
With all of this said, I recently spent some time in a local shopping mall to 'kill some time' with my wife and daughter. (Translation: That means the ladies shopped and I stood around looking for something to do...) Admittedly, I have not been to the mall in some time so I was in for a complete shock. With so much time on my hands I decided to just people-watch, as I often enjoy doing. As I watched the 10 year-old girls in miniskirts, and the young teenage boys with spikes in their face walk by, I was deeply disturbed. I had one of those "is this really happening" moments, you know. I couldn't believe my eyes. Folks, our culture is sinking. I know this is not breaking news, but does it truly grieve you deep down as much as it does me? Does your heart break when see our nation's youth so desperately in need of guidance but receiving none? It was at times similar to these in Israel's history that God raised up the 'prophets of old' to call for national repentance and contriteness of heart. The prophets strongly warned the people for their rejection of God's laws and their foolish self-reliance. I pray that somehow America can avoid its rendezvous with destiny. But it seems highly unlikely.
It seems to me that the main problem facing America, and American Christians in particular, is a hearing problem. Jesus spoke of his followers saying:
"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."
(John 10:27 - KJV)
Satan, aware of man's tendencies to wander like sheep, has craftily created 'many voices in the wind' that exist to be in direct competition with the voice of our Lord. Our culture feeds daily on a steady diet of garbage perpetuated by Hollywood, the media, advertisers, and the music industry. Of course they are not the only ones to blame, but nevertheless they are part of the problem. In most homes, the Bible does not stand a chance against the remote control or the latest best-selling book (even Christian bestsellers!)
So there I stood in the mall literally stunned by how much our nation's young people have soaked up the world's message like sponges. (I should not be surprised, but I am.) Just as our bodies display our physical diets, so our culture displays our mental diets.
Is there a hopeless young person related to you or in your sphere of influence? Child of God, Satan is a thief and a robber. He is a deceiver and he has come to 'kill, steal, and destroy' in America. His fingerprints are all over America's youth. I urge you to reach out to a young child this week. Take a little extra time when dealing with a young person. Let them know that you care about them.
You know, as we watch the events of prophecy unfold before our eyes, it can be very intense and powerful. The Lord knows how I am blown away daily by some new development happening in some area of the world signaling the imminent return of Jesus Christ. But these tumultuous times also create a feeling of instability in the lives of our nation's youth. And if we are not careful, we can get so busy with our own concerns that we can tend to forget how important the children are to the Lord. God forbid that we neglect the precious children that God has placed in our life's path. Don't become too busy to spend quality time with a child.
"But Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."
(Luke 18:16 - KJV)
