According to the Bible, only Jews belonging to the tribe of Levi are permitted to serve as Israelite priests. Due to genetic breakthroughs, a simple DNA test can now be used to determine those Jews who truly belong to the tribe of Levi.Today, most of the ground work has been laid for the reinstitution of ancient temple practices in Jerusalem:
All that is lacking is a Jewish temple and animal sacrifices.
Animal Sacrifices on the Temple Mount?
This week, the revived Sanhedrin court in Israel announced plans to reinstitute animal sacrifices on the Muslim-controlled Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The plan is ambitious because current Muslim and Jewish laws ban such sacrifices on the Temple Mount. Rabbi Dov Stein, secretary of the new Sanhedrin Court, recognizes the hurdles that lie ahead for the Sanhedrin. “We want to do the sacrifice, but we have political problems,” Stein said. “We hope there will come a time when the government will agree. We will push for that to happen.”
Despite the tension, support is mounting in Israel among some religious Jews for the rebuilding of the Jewish temple on the Temple Mount. Each month, thousands gather to march around Jerusalem’s Temple Mount in an effort to raise awareness about their plans to rebuild.
