A Nation Gripped by Fear

I rarely watch television. I simply don't have enough time to sit in front of America's most beloved box. However, last weekend was different. I was at a Global Missions conference in the Southern United States and after arriving at my hotel room, I had around three hours of free time to kill. Desiring to catch up on the day's news, I turned on the television. I immediately turned over to the FoxNews Channel, the Christian's choice for Headline News (It's a joke…). By the way, this was Thursday, August 10, the day that the multiple attempted airliner bombings was thwarted in Britain. I sat stunned as I watched the fear-mongering occurring before my eyes. After one hour of this, I was about ready to crawl underneath my bed and hide from the world. This world is a scary place… according to the media outlets. As I continued watching, I saw trained British Airport security agents searching the bags of impatient travelers for any, and all types, of liquids. The news, of course, reminded the viewing public that all liquids would be banned from future airline flights. (The news anchors and their gracious 'expert' guests even gave me the exact recipe for a liquid-based bomb just in case I wanted to make one myself.)

But back to my "TV news" experience. As I sat watching the news, I hadn't even realized it but my television had been muted the entire time. I was so engaged by the images and the scrolling text all over the screen, that I hadn't realized that I was reading the closed captioning and had completely forgotten about turning up the volume. Then, it struck me. I had seen what I had needed to see. I turned off the television. I then tried to imagine myself as a non-English speaking person watching the muted news program. What would they see? They would see the same thing I saw. FEAR. I saw fear... Fear in the eyes of the broadcasters. Fear in the eyes of the stranded travelers. Fear that everything that could go wrong, would go wrong. Fear that our very way of life was being threatened and controlled by forces outside of our control.

The spirit of fear has gripped America. Global terrorists are poised and ready to strike America and Israel with a vengeance. Only God Himself knows exactly what will transpire over the coming weeks and months, however, we can be sure that these enemies are not going to fade into the woodwork. This is a time for vigilance. This is an hour for soberness.

Americans, like the Israelis, are becoming hostages in their own country due to the radical actions of global terrorism. The trend has begun. The pattern is clear. Our country is in more danger than we could ever imagine. Evil has long desired to destroy the foundations of American civilization. However, the hand of God has protected America from the vicious onslaught of its enemies thus far. As you pray for the nation of Israel, add America to your list. America has been targeted by Satan and his minions because of its great historic impact on the nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Fear may render many people impotent in a time of great trial, however, Christians have no such luxury. Christians have a mandate that remains uncompleted. This mandate is the Great Commission. (The Great 'Unrepealed' Commission as the precious saint Amy Carmichael once put it.)

That Great Commission goes like this:

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you"(Matthew 28:19,20 NKJV)

This involves traveling. It even involves venturing into dangerous places so that the Gospel may shine like light into the darkness.

Jerry Robinson Ministries is in the process of scheduling three international missions trips for 2007. Just because fear fills our airwaves and fills the hearts of millions does not mean that I will sit at home… and neither should you. There are no "ifs, and or buts" about this mandate. It is for real. And it was for such a time as this. If you are a Christian, you are called to "GO." 2.7 Billion people that are alive right now have still never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When the majority of Christians become more concerned about the eternal damnation that awaits those unprepared souls than it does about its own perceived "safety," then we will become more effective ministers of the Gospel. Yes, the hour we are in offers more danger than ever before to those who do "Go." But it also offers more potential rewards than in any other time in history. The nations are crying out for what you hold in your heart and in your hand.
