A Forgotten Truth

Sadly, in addition to seeing the obvious political signs that indicate the imminent coming of our Lord, we have also watched the descending cultural signs. Many in this generation shun God in favor of some politically correct 'higher power' or 'inner light.' Just as the Bible foretold, the people have rejected the truth and God has sent forth a delusion that they should believe a lie.

While the majority of our generation avoids any encounter with Jesus Christ, millions have embraced fictional characters like Harry Potter, in a miserable attempt to bring a semblance of spirital power into their lives. News reports coming in from the UK confirm that witchcraft and the occult are growing and thriving throughout Europe, partly in response to the Harry Potter phenomenon.

Certainly, Harry Potter is not the problem, nor is any other cultural fad. Rather they are simply mild symptoms of a malignant cultural disease that is affecting our world. Namely, looking for the light while in the dark. You would think that finding the light while in the dark would be the easiest thing to do. But the darkness described here is a darkness that is caused by blindness. (2 Cor.4:4) How can a blind person see light? He cannot. He, therefore, stays in a constant search for it, creating his own theology along the way. Then tragically, he gives advice/counsel to other blind individuals to aid them in their search for something he could never find. It is a fool's game. (I know because I lived that way myself for far too long.) Our generation is witnessing a full-blown case of 'the blind leading the blind,' as Jesus described, and the consequences will be severe for those who refuse to ponder their existence honestly.

It is imperative as Christians that we 'look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.' (Hebrews 12:2) It's not about us. It's not about anything that the world has conjured up and neatly packaged. It's about Christ's sacrifice for your sins and the redemption that he offers you as an individual.

Throughout the Bible, sincere seekers will find a truth woven into every story and on every page. That truth is: 'God Reigns!' As we gather together as the body of Christ and watch the world's media and diplomats focus it's full attention on the city of Jerusalem and the Middle East, we rest in the knowledge that even the mightiest human leader is merely a pawn within the true scope of things.

If you are blindly searching for the light in the dark, I urge you to ask Jesus Christ into your heart. The scales will fall from your eyes and what once was darkened will be filled with light. Jesus Christ said: 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father except by me.' (John 14:6) There is no other way.

If you already have Jesus Christ in your heart, hold your peace over the days and weeks ahead and rest assured that 'God Reigns!' Your confidence in God in these tumultuous times will help further the Kingdom of God whether you realize it, or not.
