Tensions continue to mount between Syria and Israel after Israeli jets entered Syria's airspace from the Mediterranean Sea before dawn and launched a pre-emptive attack on a Syrian airbase last week. The Israeli jets were intercepted by Syrian air defense systems near the Turkish border. In a letter condemning Israel’s actions and calling for international action by the U.N., Syria warned that “the continuing silence of the international community vis-à-vis Israel's illegal act will place the region as well as the peace and security of both countries in the face of uncontrollable tragedies."
In the letter sent to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Syria warned that the "outrageous aggression" by Israel will have serious and "tragic consequences." But in a new report released this week, Israel has claimed that during possible nuclear installations were discovered during recent Israeli reconnaissance flights over Syria. A Washington official and the Israeli government are estimating that the nuclear materials may have been supplied by North Korea. According to the Nazareth-based Israeli Arab newspaper, The Assennara, anonymous Israeli sources stated that the Israeli aircrafts "bombed a Syrian-Iranian missile base in northern Syria that was financed by Iran." The anonymous sources added, "it appears that the base was completely destroyed." In addition to the ominous letter sent to the U.N., Syria has initiated a large call-up of reserve soldiers in preparation for a possible military confrontation with Israel, according to a Lebanese newspaper. The Syrians also appear to be appealing to the Islamic Turkish government for political and strategic support.
As the tensions mount between these two countries, the words of the Hebrew prophet Isaiah are brought to mind.
“The burden against Damascus. ‘Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city, and it will be a ruinous heap.’” – Isaiah 17:1 (NKJV)
Damascus is the capital of Syria and is the oldest city still in existence on earth. The prophecy regarding Syria is clear: Their capital city, Damascus, and their very existence as a global player, will be snuffed out. This direct Biblical prophecy regarding Damascus has never been fulfilled. The fulfillment of Biblical prophecy leading up to Christ’s return hinges upon the state of Israel, Syria, Iran, and several other countries in the region known as the Middle East. JRMI continues to monitor the events unfolding in the Middle East as they relate to Biblical prophecy. God has raised up JRMI as a “watchman on the wall.” It is a responsibility that this ministry takes very seriously. (Titus 2:11-13) God has ordained that many specific events should happen in the last days prior to the return of His Son. The Bible contains, with amazing accuracy, the details of these events so that we can “watch” and be ready as that day nears. (Mark 13:35)
One thing is certain in this day and hour: Christ’s return is at the door.
